This year was the second fully virtual edition of FOSDEM, the Free & Open Source Software meeting that takes place in Brussels yearly. This edition gathered thousands of FOSS enthusiasts from all around the world, making it the perfect event for anyone interested in learning about open-source projects and communities.

Hyland was participating in the Collaboration and Content Management devroom with a session on deploying Alfresco and Nuxeo platforms by using Docker Compose.

But there were also pretty interesting topics related to Document Management that worth to mention. Let's review some selected sessions from the conference.

David Benque described the process to add office formats interoperability to CryptPad. CryptPad is a collaboration suite heavily oriented to privacy and security, since it provides end-to-end encrypted capabilities. We were discussing a bit on how to integrate that great editor with Alfresco and Nuxeo, but there are still some gaps we need to cover before starting that task.

Sébastien Grignard provided a technical overview on their approach to push events for different users on the Tracim platform. You can experiment with the platform in the Community Page, that is powered by Tracim itself!

Ludovi Dubost and Anca Luca talked about XWiki as an Open Source alternative to Confluence and Notion, describing the best practices to move proprietary content from those platforms to an open and standard platform that can be deployed on premise.

  • Remeber that, since Alfresco is providing a Cloud Service in PaaS, the product can be deployed on premise by using different approaches: distribution files, Ansible, Docker Compose and Kubernetes.

Jos Poortvliet reviewed the three main releases of NextCloud in 2021, including a document signing integration with LibreSign.

Digital Signature was one of the topics most recurrent in the room, since European regulation supports the use of this technology for legal purposes.

Alex Mikheev introduced the latest addition to the ONLYOFFICE platform: the OFORMS. This open source techology allow to design Document Forms that can be fullfilled by users from every device with the ability to export the result to PDF format.

The whole event was hosted in Matrix platform, that wrote a nice blog post on the experience in Hosting Fosdem 2022 on Matrix

And finally, special thanks to Clement Aubin for hosting the room and helping everyone to enjoy the experience!
