Comprehensive Documentation and Comparison REST API vs Web Scripts vs CMIS

We are using Alfresco Community Edition. We will be using our own front end with Alfresco as Main Document Management systems running behind the scene.

While working on Alfresco REST API i found that there are multiple options available. i.e. REST API, DotCMIS and Web Scripts.

People suggesting REST API for one case and CMIS for some other and Web Scripts in some cases.
I want to understand the differences between these, Usage scenarios, Pros and Cons of each.

We are Asp.Net Core 2.0.

CMIS is a standard and REST (Web Scripts) is Alfresco proprietary. In many cases, we are using both as no features are available using only CMIS API.
