How to extend document library toolbar?

I'm trying to add a new button on a document library toolbar. I suppose that I should extend toolbar.js which is placed in target\tomcat\webapps\elibrary-share\components\documentlibrary. I am new in Alfresco and I find hard to make those customizations. I have already implemented new button under Create and Selected Items.  Any tipp or link would be helpful.
