How to retrieve details from database?

   Im new here in alfresco and i don't know how to start my project it's all about getting the details from the database. How to access the database??

Please help thanks

In alfresco generally we do not access database directly.There are few java and javascript api are available.You can use those to start the work.If you do not know any thing about alfresco.I think you should start with webscript.Few link to start on that.
