shared-file-store-volume, is it important?

I saw someone using it in the community edition, but the earlier versions and in the https://github.com/Alfresco/alfresco-docker-installer there is not an option to install it. Could someone explain what's the importance of the shared file store volume and if I could just remove it when upgrading Alfresco?

shared-file-store-volume is an Spring Boot application used as storage service in a Transform Service deployment when using Alfresco Enterprise.

It's completely uselesss in Alfresco Community.
