worflows from a remote app

can i deploysome alfresco workflows in the community edition 5.0.d from a remote web application ? if so how can i do that?

the company that i work for uses alfresco and wants me to make a remote java app that connects to the repository , they already implemented the workflows inside alfresco and want this web app to connect to alfresco and start them in a user friendly interface ,  it is a mailing web app , how can i start these workflows from a remote app ?
