How do I create a popup dialog?

I've looked around the forum for a similar question, but I haven't managed to find a satisfactory answer. 

Is there a way to display some kind of popup, message dialog, or similar, displaying just some text message, with an "OK" button below it? Perhaps similar to the error messages you get when something isn't working?

I am looking for a way to display "Workflow started with ID: XXXX" when I initiate a process workflow, but so far no luck :/
