act_hi_taskinst table end_time_ column is not getting updated properly

We have activiti workflow code integrated in our app and recently some user task - even though they are completed - the end time is not getting updated.

So the list which we show to the user in their incomplete task list is not getting cleared.

I could not find the code where this is done. Any help on how to debug this issue?
